TWD: Cherry Rhubarb Cobbler

I thought I'd like this one better. I'm a huge ginger fan, love cherries, and thought I really liked rhubarb. It's out of rhubarb season here as far as the grocery stores are concerned. I found out after I bought some puny stalks from Whole Foods that a close friend still had a producing rhubarb plant in her garden. Next time I poll the garden friends before trolling the grocery store.

The combined flavors just didn't work for me. The raw cherries were delicious, but their flavor was lost in the cobbler. The ginger came through strongly, but it just seemed odd. I'll give the rhubarb part of it a pass since mine was on the downward spiral by the time I got around to putting the cobbler together. I liked the topping except for the ginger aftertaste - I could see lowering the ginger or switching it out for something like cinnamon and/or clove.

All in all, I liked the Mixed Berry Cobbler from a few weeks ago much better. (But I love trying different things, so I'd still count this one a success!)

That's the spirit - and as long as someone else likes it, that makes it a success as well. It was an interesting combo if nothing else.

I love how your biscuits look.. all nicely browned and puffy!

Well, you tried it and I think that's good. I wasn't sure about this one either, but I'm glad I made it. It does look very nice, though.

I agree...cinnamon would be a good sub for the cinnamon. It looks good though!

Oh, do you have the kind of friends who have abundances of things from their garden so they pawn them all off on you? Lucky, lucky. I've got to get me some of those friends. Puny rhubarb can be such a saddening sight I think. Oh well. Next time!

It looks lovely-sorry the flavor combo wasn't your favorite. I think that is part of the fun of TWD, trying things that you normally wouldn't and finding out if you like them or not.

Sorry to hear you didn't like it very much, looks so good though! I wasn't mad about mine either. I love cherries but I'd prefer to eat them in their normal state, they just didn't do anything for me cooked either. I'm also glad I tried it though! :)

The ginger was too strong for me, too. I'm with you--one of the things I love is trying new things, even if I don't end up liking them. =)

I think you hit it on the nail for me too. I didn't get too much flavor from the cherries either. At least we tried and now we know right? Great job!

Yes, I'm also learning to poll my gardening friends before making a trip to the grocery store. It has a wonderful impact on the food budget!

And I love your "trying something new is a success" spirit.

while i liked the ginger flavor, i agree that the cherries weren't great. i prefer to eat sweet cherries raw than to bake with them, i think.

Trying new things was always a statement in childhood. We always had to take at least 'one bite' before saying we didn't like something. lol..ahh the memories..I now use this line with my boys..sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but at least they tried it.

Your cobbler looks wonderful and I like the biscuits.

I look forward to your post next week!

I was a bigger fan of the mixed berry version as well. Oh well, live and learn.
